Purple Book: Draft 1

Dear Friends,

There are several parts to the Big Purple book.

Part 1 contains introduction, background opening speeches, forum statements and workshop summaries.

Part II will contain plenary / keynote speeches.

Part III will contain Statements and Declarations submitted from workshops.

Part IV will contains country and sub-regional summaries.

Part V will contain APWW contacts.

What we are sending now is the first cut of the workshop summaries and recommendations and some of the statements and declarations which have been sent through. Please note you cannot or amend anything but the workshop summaries in Part I the statements were already agreed at the conference.

While you are checking through he workshop summaries we will be working further on the introduction, the formatting etc.

This is a very rough first draft containing the outcomes of the workshops and the key statements. This material plus the conference declaration form the basis of the little purple book (our major lobbying document) which will be sent separately.

Throughout the workshops the notes were taken around achievements, key issues, obstacles and gaps - the notes have been collated under these headings whenever possible although in some workshops we do not have a record of all of these areas.

An introduction and a brief history of APWW will be included in the final version.

When we have received all comments back, a brief summary of the amended text will be put at the front of the book.

We can only include issues discussed and agreed by the forum in this book. New issues cannot be introduced that were not covered in the workshops as it is a record of the work we did at the forum. Please keep this in mind when you are checking for possible amendments and addition to text.
Please only send additional text if something was discussed and agreed at the forum and is missing from these notes.

How to respond:

DO NOT SEND AN AMENDED TEXT BACK TO US - WE DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO RESPOND TO THIS...

In an email please type your suggested amendments / additions . Clearly Identify the critical area, the title of the workshop, sub heading, the page number and exactly where you want the text to sit.

Please return you comments by the 18th August. Due to time constraints, we cannot consider amendments which arrive after this date.

Do not worry about typographical errors, these will all be fixed in the final version. Between now and the 18th we will continue referencing the material to the various UN documents and developing the introduction etc.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Carole and Eileen
